Dubai, UAE, 2 June 2016: Roche Diagnostics Middle East (RDME) has partnered with Sharjah Blood Transfusion and Research Center to recognize recurring blood donors and supporters of blood donation campaigns throughout UAE. The ceremony attended by Dr. Hussein Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Health and prevention, and comes as part of marking the World Blood Donor Day celebrated globally on 14 June every year.
In addition to that, RDME has conducted a blood donation drive in association with Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza). Employees from companies across Jafza participated in the drive that was held inside the free zone. The campaign, which was supervised by a team of specialized doctors, generated a tremendous response from the employees who reached out to this commitment of Saving Lives.
Commenting on RDME’s initiative, Ibrahim Ghawi, Head of Diagnostics GCC & Levant, said: “Our aim through this campaign is to serve the community and help in raising awareness about society related humanitarian initiatives and activities. We take very seriously our role toward community welfare and saving the lives of others.”
Dr. Al Rand expressed his appreciation to RDME for launching this campaign and said: “As one of the highest forms of humanitarian services, voluntary blood donation can play a vital role in saving someone’s life. Not only that, but such campaigns reflect commitment and awareness of the corporate key role in society.”
Fatma Hussein, Jafza Senior Manager CSR, commenting on the importance of blood drives, said: “Jafza is dedicated to the support of the community and takes every opportunity to engage in humanitarian and health awareness campaigns. The Free Zone has regularly hosted blood donation drives during the last decade and will continue to do so, encouraging our employees and clients to contribute to society in a meaningful way. Donating blood is not a time-consuming process and it can make a huge difference to the people who need it.”
